Commonly, organizations desire to limit who can edit an entity to the team and members that own them. This feature will grant the appropriate owner teams and members edit rights to entities without having to grant generic edit permissions to all users in a workspace. Entity ownership must be defined.
Enabling the feature
- Go to Settings → Entities → Teams
- Enable the toggle for “Team ownership entity editing”.
Note: By enabling this for the workspace, the default USER role will be automatically updated to no longer generically support editing entities. If you have granted “Configure Catalogs” permissions in a custom role and assigned to users, that will supersede this setting. It will continue to allow users to edit all entities, regardless of ownership. You will need to remove the “Configure Catalogs” permission from the custom role.
Specifying team editors
- Go to the team you’d like to set editors for.
- Click “Configure entity”
- Click “Members” in the left side nav
- Toggle editor to true for any members you’d like to have edit permissions for owned entities.
- Click “Publish change” in the top right
- Confirm that “Editor” was saved by clicking members and verifying the “Editor” label in the member row.
Editing a team owned entity
If a user is an editor for a team, they can see all the entities they can edit by clicking the “Entities” tab for a team.
An editor will see the “Configure entity” button for all those entities and the team itself.
If a user is not an editor of a team, they will not be able to see the “Configure entity” button for any entities owned by the team or the team itself.
