Typically, you will see a difference between Cortex Users (listed under ‘Permissions’) and Users that can have their identities mapped ( like ‘GitHub user mapping’) in Cortex. It comes down to how users are managed in the platform:
- Cortex User, under Permissions: This typically shows active Cortex users—those who have logged in and are recognized as users in your Cortex instance.
- Identity Mapping: This can show a broader set of users, including those who are not active Cortex users but are referenced in team definitions (e.g., via Team YAML)
So, if a user is referenced in a Team YAML (for example, as a team member or owner), they can appear in the GitHub user mapping list even if they are not an active Cortex user. This is because Cortex surfaces all identities referenced in teams, regardless of whether those users have logged in or are still active in the source system!
